This brief video compares the Vox flip-up modular motorcycle helmet with the Zox Nevado flip-up modular motorcycle helmet.
Everyone likes a bargain, but can the word "cheap" be used in the same sentence with "good"? Yep -- we've seen it before, when the Zox dudes turned out the pretty incredible (for the price) Zox Azuma R, which proves that 89 bucks and a little research can buy a lot of helmet....
If we had to guess, we'd say that Vox helmets are probably being churned out of the same factory that produces the Zamp JS-1. But who knows? As we've seen at the yearly Powersports Dealer Expo (see our 2007 report), there must be a zillion Chinese factories turning out helmets by the container-load, and they're sold under as many names worldwide....
The narrow eye port and poor balance conspire to make the Vox helmet a questionable choice, in our opinion. Combined with the too-easy-to-dislodge rotating visor and what we think is relatively poor quality of the fittings, it would be hard to recommend the Vox, especially when there are helmets like the Zox Nevado for about the same price....
Zox has amazed us at how much helmet can be purchased for around $100.00. We mentioned in our Azuma review that we'd report back after we evaluated another Zox product to see if the levels of quality were common across their product lineup, and it appears to be so....
But the issue with being able to pull open the rotating visor without using the release is serious, in our opinion. Some may think this is unacceptable and a fatal flaw. We think that in general, modular helmets are a compromise to begin with, and owners are accepting a certain amount of risk in wearing a modular rather than a full-face helmet.

I had a Vox helmet that they show, i was in an accident and it worked. did not open up. but it does sit high on your head. you will end up tipping the front of the helmet down to see your gauges, if you wear your chin strap real tight it is uncomfortable. besides that i like it. the visor and flip up are awesome, and everyone thought it was bad ass.
i’ve looked around and people are saying that theirs doesn’t flip open with force. so maybe that has a defect, or something isn’t making in the clasping mechanism.
Yes, could be, although the locking tabs on this one are straight, they don’t have a hook that would lock the visor. They may also have changed the design since we reviewed this version.
what is up with the sound voice sounds distorted
Yes, sorry about that, we recorded this one a long time ago before we knew what we were doing! The more recent videos use a separate voice track, recorded in .wav format on a Zoom H2 stereo recorder, then overlaid on to the video.
